SSH, which is an abbreviation for Secure Shell, is a network protocol employed to exchange protected information between a client and a hosting server, making it impossible for unauthorized parties to intercept any information. Many tech-savvy users prefer SSH due to the better level of security. The connection is made and the commands are delivered using a command line. The offered options depend on the type of hosting service - on a shared server, in particular, files can be transferred or deleted, databases may be imported and exported, and archives may be set up or unpacked. On a virtual or a dedicated server, the options are significantly more - the web server and the database server can be started/stopped/rebooted, server-side software could be installed and more. These things are not possible on a shared server, since full root access is needed and all the other customers on that server would be affected. While SSH is employed mainly with UNIX-like OSs, there are SSH clients for other OSs as well - Windows, Mac OS, etc.

SSH Telnet in Shared Website Hosting

SSH access is provided with all shared website hosting that we offer. With some of them, it's featured by default, while with others it is an additional upgrade which you can add with a few mouse clicks in your hosting Control Panel. You can obtain SSH access through the section dedicated to it where you can also find the info which you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You will be able to select the password that you'll use and, if necessary, you'll be able to modify it with a couple of clicks from the same place. All commands that can be used with our shared packages are listed in a help article together with relevant instances. If the SSH access feature is permitted for your account, you will also be able to upload files using your preferred FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

SSH access is provided as standard with some of our semi-dedicated server packages, while with others you can easily include it from the hosting CP if required - even just for the current month. Either way, you are able to activate and de-activate the function with only one mouse click via the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same place, you'll discover the server name, the port number and the username required to connect to our platform. You will also find a box where you can easily input the password that you would like to use, because it does not have to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better protection, you can also change it as much as you require. The full list of the commands which can be performed in a semi-dedicated account is available in our Knowledge Base, along with the syntax and a few examples. An extra function after SSH access is allowed shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client that supports this type of connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

If you acquire a new VPS server from our company, it'll provide full root access and you will be able to connect to the server and to manage everything through an SSH console. The function is included as standard with all packages, so you will not have to activate or upgrade anything. Your website hosting server shall be set up shortly after you purchase it and as soon as you get the Welcome email with the login information, you may connect via the server’s main IP address and start working. As the VPS is a software emulation of a dedicated server and is isolated from the other accounts inside the physical machine, there'll be no restrictions regarding the commands which you can use. You shall have full root access, so that you can set up and run any application which can work on a Linux machine, manage files, folders and databases or start/stop/reboot your entire machine or any software running on it.
